The first obstacle when learning Russian is that Russians use the Cyrillic alphabet. Therefore next week we will be listing an introduction into the Cyrillic alphabet so that you can familiarise yourself with the letters and their pronunciation. This will be followed each week by some useful Russian phrases that will make it easier for you to get around St Petersburg and Moscow

In Russia the holiday season only starts on the 31st of December with the New Year celebrations followed by the Russian Orthodox Christmas on 7th of January 2010. Most businesses in Russia will be closed until the 10th of January 2010.
